Students in grades 4 - 5 are eligible to participate in the school band program offered by Music Education Services. Lessons are given to the students on a weekly basis; two band rehersals are scheduled each week. There are two band concerts scheduled each year; at Christmas and in the Spring. Information regarding participation and associated fees is available at the beginning of each school year. Attendance at band practice, all rehersals, and concers is mandatory.
The Children's Choir is open to all SMdP School children. Practices are during the school day. The choir performs during special masses.
The Santa Maria Handbell Choir is a very distinguished and highly recognized musical group. This is an after school student activity. Students in grades 3 through 5 are eligible to tryout and participate in this group. These students perform at liturgies, special events, and concerts. Information is distributed throughout the school year by the choir director.
The purpose of the Student Council is to give students, elected by their peers, the opportunity and responsibility to exercise their leadership ability, to share in decision making, and to formally express the opinions of the student body in matters of general school interest.
Two classroom representatives are elected from the second to fifth grades. Officers are elected by the student body, Treasurer and Secretary, are selected from the fourth grade; and President and Vice-President, are selected from the fifth grade.
Girl Scouts at Santa Maria del Popolo school is a way for girls to connect outside of the classroom. We currently have 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade troops. Most meetings are held on campus with off-site fun activities planned per individual troop. Girls will focus on developing their fullest potential in their everyday life skills. They will learn to relate to others with understanding and respect. They will also develop a meaningful set of values to provide the foundation for sound decision-making. We aim to contribute to the improvement of society with focus on leadership skills. Please contact Robin Gonzalez through the SMdP school office for more details.
